Sperrin Run 2023

Percy (my Morris Minor) and I were invited to join the Ulster Pre War Austin Club on their  on the 10th of June.

We set off around 8:30am from Derry, arriving at the starting point, Turkingrons in Cookstown for about 10:15.

Upon arrival we got a goodie bag, with our route map, tokens and a bottle of water. There were a huge variety of cars in attendance, from Pre-War to 70s; sports cars and saloons.

After an excellent coffee and scone, we set off for Drapersrown, taking the scenic route via Churchtown. We then continued to our midway rest stop, OM dark sky observatory, via some gorgeous single track.

On arrival we all had a bite of lunch and a rest. The mayor of Mid Ulster Council was there to greet us Once everyone was fed and watered, we continued towards Gortin Town, again through some lovely back roads and lanes with smiles all the way, where some members stopped for a well deserved ice cream.

Before finishing up at Glen Park Estate Hotel for dinner, we pulled in at a viewpoint overlooking Gortin. Dinner was very nice, and was well appreciated by all after a day’s driving. Overall, it was a fantastic, relaxed day out with lovely roads and gorgeous scenery.
