Social Event 2011
Wilfie and Patricia Patterson really did the club proud with an unbelievable day. It all started when nearly 60 people met in Ballynahinch. No old cars were needed, but Wilfie had a surprise for us all when a 1963 AEC bus arrived as our transport for the day.Soon we were on our way, the men listening to all the double clutching and the women having a good gossip as we climbed our way into the hills to arrive at Slieve Croob Flying Club for our first halt.
After tea, coffee, sandwiches and sticky buns Wilfie had another surprise when he announced two helicopters were available to provide us with runs around the Mourne mountains. This was a fantastic experience, enjoyed by everyone and even fulfilling a lifelong ambition for at least one person. The old cars are now for sale. We’re all buying helicopters!! A big thank you to the flying club and our two pilots for how well they looked after us.
After reluctantly accepting we couldn’t take the helicopters or in the case of the ladies the pilots home with us we were on our way again to our next stop; the Tudor Cinema outside Lisbane for a private viewing of an old time romantic comedy which was enjoyed by all of us.
Could our enjoyment continue. Well with the Pattersons organising of course it could. It was back to their daughter Gillian’s Art Studio for a wonderful buffet meal, and what a meal it was, like all the food on the day, mainly prepared by Patricia and Gillian.
What more can we say. A truly memorable day. Thank you Wilfie for the thought and hard work you put into this. Thank you Patricia for all your work in co-ordinating the provision of all the food and to Gillian for the use of her Art Studio and her help in the preparation of the food. Our appreciation to Slieve Croob Flying Club, especially their two pilots Marty and Robbie, and to Ulsterbusand Eamon Rooney Coaches and their drivers. Thank you to all the other ladies from the club who helped in different ways, and of course not forgetting our youngest helper Samantha.
