Autumn Run 2011

Following a turbulent week weather wise our prayers were answered on Saturday with reasonable weather, the sun shining intermittently throughout the day.

Our run commenced at 10-00 am at the Moira roundabout where our Austineers from Omagh arrived in full wet gear due to the Co. Tyrone weather. Eighteen cars old and moderns made their way to Kilwarlin Moravian Church for tea, coffee scones and cakes and a blessing from the Rev Pat who later led a tour of the Church.

We then proceeded a short distance before the laying on of hands on George McCaigs car!!! (Nothing too serious) before continuing to the Ulster Aviation Society at the Maze Prison where we parked in front of the World War 11  Hangers, now re furbished for the society.

UPWAC members were split into three groups for the tour of the museum. This was a most interesting  educational and informative visit of numerous aircraft which were on display Our  tour guide expanded on the history of the aircraft which also incorporated an area for the Royal Observer Corps and the large museum library.

We also discovered that not only Austins require a drip tray but La crème de crème of Rolls Royce are also vunerable to a leak or two; take note RR owners!!!!

Before leaving we enjoyed light refreshments, kindly supplied by Margaret Irwin.

On leaving the prison we took to the lanes and byways of Co. Down for a short ramble to Ballydougan Pottery for a most enjoyable evening meal. Godfrey Crawford thanked our guests for participating in the run and invited them to join the club.
